Community Voice Rules, Etiquette, and Privacy Guidelines
The TERMS & CONDITIONS
Thank you for being part of our community. To ensure the best possible experience for all members, we set up these basic guidelines for your participation.
By joining and using this community, you agree that you have read and agree to follow these rules and guidelines. You also agree to reserve discussions and shared files and content to that best suited to the medium. This is a great medium with which to ask for the advice of your peers, benefit from their experience, and take part in an ongoing conversation. Questions should be directed to our Member Services department via the Contact Us link on this site.
Please take a moment to acquaint yourself with these important guidelines. If you have questions, contact the community manager via the contact us web form or email communityvoice@1e.com. To preserve an environment that encourages both civil and fruitful dialogue, we reserve the right to suspend or terminate membership in this community for anyone who violate these rules.
The Rules
- Respect others. Focus on the content of posts and not on the people making them. Please extend the benefit of the doubt to newer guests and members; there’s no such thing as a stupid question.
- Respect the purpose of the community. Use the community to share successes, challenges, constructive feedback, questions, and goals instead of products or services that you provide. If you’ve found a product or service helpful, please share your experience with the group in a respectful way.
- Use caution when discussing products. Information posted on the discussion groups and in the libraries is available for all to see, and comments are subject to libel, slander, and antitrust laws.
- Refrain from unacceptable language: All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive language or use of illegal materials are strictly prohibited. Do not post anything that you would not want the world to see or that you would not want anyone to know came from you.
- Respect intellectual property. Post content that you have personally created or have permission to use and have properly attributed to the content creator.
- Posting: When posting items in our collaborative environment, please indicate if the item is not available for reuse. It’s also advisable to contact the owner of any material if you would like to reuse it.
- Where to post: Post your message or documents only to the most appropriate community. This helps ensure all messages receive the best response by eliminating "noise." Avoid cross-posting whenever possible
Discussion Group Etiquette
- State concisely and clearly the topic of your comments in the subject line. This allows members to respond more appropriately to your posting and makes it easier for members to search the archives by subject.
- Send messages such as "thanks for the information" or "me, too" to individuals, not to the complete list. Do this by using the "Reply to Sender" link in every message.
- Do not send administrative messages, such as “remove me from the list,” to the group. Instead, use the web interface to change your settings or to remove yourself from a list. If you are changing email addresses, you do not need to remove yourself from the list and rejoin under your new email address. Simply change your setting in your profile pages.
Etiquette Summarized
- You do not have to agree, with us or each other.
HOWEVER, it should be noted that we have little tolerance for suffering fools, gladly or otherwise. Proceed at your own risk.
- When you disagree, do so in a civilized manner
Regard rational disagreement as a challenge. Points will be awarded for style, accuracy, politeness, and measured delivery. Bonus points if you fact-check before you post.
- Try to err on the side of not being a jerk.
Everybody acts like a jerk on occasion, the author included. When that happens, and it’s pointed out that you're doing it, stop. You will know because we'll tell you privately.
- If disagreements become heated, disengage ASAP
This includes but is not limited to insults; the hurling of curses, or foul language; verbal fisticuffs; misogyny; proselytizing, racism; innuendo; etc, Disengage immediately. You do NOT really need to get in the last word.
- DONT’S:
No racism, sexism, or homophobia. No transphobia, stalking, harassment, threats, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, passive aggression, and no SPAM.
- Stay on topic
If someone did not post about <whatever crazy thing is happening>, don't try to change their current topic to <whatever crazy thing is happening>. Create your own post.
- If there is a problem, TELL US!
Use the Contact Us link mentioned above. Do so before a minor problem becomes a big problem
- Membership here is a privilege, not a right!
Offenders will be given a private warning. Offensive posts will be removed. Frequent offenders WILL be removed from the group
- No MEME's Please
While often funny, or satirical, they too often are political or potentially offensive. Please refrain from using them
- We may remove your post(s) at will
Understand that we reserve the right to remove all posts or comments thereto without warning that we deem them to be outside the scope of these rules

This Statement applies to any 1E website, application, product, software, or service that links to it (collectively, our “Services”).
Please read this Statement carefully and contact our Data Protection Officer if you have any questions about our privacy practices or your personal information choices. Personal information means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person; an identifiable person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data, online identifier or to one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, economic, cultural, or social identity of that person. We collect, use, disclose, transfer, and store personal information only when needed to provide our Services and for our operational and business purposes as described in this Statement. We want to be clear about our privacy practices so that you can make informed choices about the use of your information, and we encourage you to contact us at any time with questions or concerns.
2 – The types of personal information we collect
We may collect personal information from you, for example, if you register for an event, request information, purchase or use our Software or Services, or request support. We may ask you to provide information such as your name, address, phone number and email address. Not all of the personal information 1E holds about you will always come directly from you. It may, for example, come from your employer, other organizations to which you belong, or a professional service provider. We also collect personal information from third parties such as our partners, service providers, and publicly available websites, to offer Services we think may be of interest and to help us maintain data accuracy and provide and enhance the Services.
In addition, our servers, logs, and other technologies automatically collect certain information to help us administer, protect, and improve our Services; analyse usage; and improve users’ experience. We share personal information with others only as described in this Statement, or when we believe that the law permits or requires it.
Occasionally we collect and process what may be considered sensitive personal information.
For example, if you purchase something from us or subscribe to our Services, we will collect payment information, such as financial or bank card information, and other information necessary for us to process the transaction. Some of our Services may ask you to share your precise geolocation so we can customize your experience and increase the accuracy of the Service. Some of our Services will ask you to share your precise geolocation so we can customize your experience and increase the accuracy of the Service.
Marketing and events: We use personal information to deliver marketing and event communications to you across various platforms, such as email, telephone, text messaging, direct mail, and online. If we send you a marketing email, it will include instructions on how to opt out of receiving these emails in the future. You should never post or share any information that is confidential or about others unless you have permission to do so. These Services may have their own Terms of Use and, where appropriate, their own privacy statements. We moderate these Services for compliance with our Terms of Use.
Legal obligations: We may be required to use and retain personal information for legal and compliance reasons, such as the prevention, detection, or investigation of a crime; loss prevention; or fraud. We may also use personal information to meet our internal and external audit requirements, information security purposes, and as we otherwise believe to be necessary or appropriate: (a) under applicable law, which may include laws outside your country of residence; (b) to respond to requests from courts, law enforcement agencies, regulatory agencies, and other public and government authorities, which may include such authorities outside your country of residence; (c) to enforce our terms and conditions; and (d) to protect our rights, privacy, safety, or property, or those of other persons.
